#48 - John Landsteiner

Monday Oct 19, 2020
On today's episode we had the pleasure of having Gold Medal Olympian and American Curler John Landsteiner on the show with us. John jokingly talks about how he slowly transitioned from religion classes to full time Curling at the age of 8. And how he became known as "The Ringer" on his fathers Curling Club Team as a young kid. How when he got to college in Duluth he hit an age where he had to go Pro. And then his amazing ride to two olympics, One Gold medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics, Bronze Medal at Basel, and 4 US Men's Championships. The interesting story about how John's teammate John Schuster was dropped from the United States Curling Association High Performance Program and decided to create his own team "The Rejects" which included fellow HPP cut Matt Hamilton, John Landsteiner who they convinced to come out of retirement and Tyler George who couldn't attend the HPP combine due to work. The cool part of this story is The Rejects dusted both HPP teams in the 2015 National Championships and then were added to the High Performance Program in 2016. Then 2018 Winter Olympics when they brought USA home the first ever Gold Medal in the sport of Curling. John discusses what the olympics experience was like and he could see why single athletes would love it. As well as being on talk shows and touring the USA, kissing babies and shaking hands. Oh and that time he lost his Ring (the one that goes with his Gold Medal) on the beach in California when he went on a late night swim with the boys. And how a man on the beach randomly found it and returned it back to him 2 weeks later. Very cool story. A must listen!

Wednesday Sep 30, 2020
On today's episode we got to interview NBA player and Minnesota Legend, Tyus Jones about his basketball journey on and off the court. Something that stuck out to me about Tyus, is even with all the accolades and accomplishments he received through the game of basketball the thing he is most proud of doing was becoming a father to his son baby Tyus Jr, and how it has changed him for the better. We discussed everything, how Tyus has stayed grounded and humble through it all. Why his mantra "Write you own story" still resonates with him so strongly, where he got it from, and how he turned it into giving back to the community. And why giving back is so important. From growing up in a basketball family, his relationship with Coach K, that UNC/Duke rivalry, drilling that dramatic deep three in the natty champ, how hard it was to leave Duke, draft night, how KG and Jimmy Buckets are the best teammates he has ever had. And how the Minnesota Timberwolves had all the talent to do something special when Jimmy Butler was in town and why they couldn't put it together. Tyus also discusses what really happened during that infamous practice where Jimmy Butler destroyed the starters and didn't even score a bucket. And candidly about Grayson Allen tripping opponents. Wednesday Aug 26, 2020
Wednesday Aug 26, 2020
Former Professional Basketball Player and Benilde St. Margaret Great, Armond Battle came on the show to discuss his basketball career and what he is doing now. Starts off with how Pulley and Benilde St. Margaret got him to a D1 program. The exposure the AAU circuit gave him and how those experiences at such a young age unintentionally gave him a big head, which in turn taught him some very difficult lessons. How the anticipation of going to the NBA didn’t have him taking college serious in the academic sector. An achilles and ankle injury at Tulsa altered his future. Which in turn some poor decisions caused his dismissal with the team. His JUCO journey, that led him to Wright State over Old Dominion. His professional career overseas. And how becoming a father made him realize that playing professional basketball was no longer his dream. Maturing through all those tribulations to now successfully running his own financial company BOW Family Holdings and being a family man. A must listen!
